The Waiting Workforce

The Waiting Workforce is sponsored by JPMorgan Chase. Photo by Jim Murphy, author of “Real Philly History, Real Fast.”

I came across this powerful display near Arch Street between 5th and 6th Street by accident … as I walked north from the Independence Visitor Center toward the Constitution Center.

Sponsored by JPMorgan Chase, its goal is to point out that one in three Americans has a criminal record, and most can’t ever get jobs again. They just keep waiting.

This exhibit recognizes Pennsylvania as the first state to enact Clean Slate legislation and clear eligible criminal records. I literally stumbled upon this art installation, thought it was striking and wanted my readers to be aware of it.

I believe the exhibit will be just up for the month of April. So this may be the only time you do get to see it.
