One outstanding Philadelphia feature is something you don’t see: a wall or protective fortification. Our founder, William Penn, wanted good relations with the American Indians or Native Americans who were here before him. So – in contrast to New York and Boston – our city of Philadelphia never had any walls to keep people out. Penn invited people in.
