One out of every six doctors in the U.S. has received medical training in Philadelphia!

Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation’s first, was founded in 1751 by Benjamin Franklin and Dr. Thomas Bond. Today it is part of the University of Pennsylvania Health System.

That statistic comes from the Drexel University College of Medicine. And it may not be too surprising.

Why? Because Philadelphia has five medical schools: Drexel University, Temple University, Thomas Jefferson University, Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and the University of Pennsylvania.

So students and practicing physicians have many educational opportunities to choose from in Philadelphia – home of Pennsylvania Hospital, the nation’s first general hospital.
