Big and Bronze

The Irish Memorial at Front and Chestnut Street is the largest bronze monument in Philadelphia. That word comes from the Handbook of the Association of Philadelphia Tour Guides. This marvelous monument, which includes 35 life-sized figures, is about 30-feet long, 12-feet wide and 12-feet high. Designed by the now-deceased Glenna Goodacre, it commemorates Ireland’s Great Hunger of 1845-50. The monument will move while I-95 is being capped … and then is expected to move back to its current location.
