Closed for Repairs

3 top Philly sites are being
renovated at the same time

Many people believe things happen in threes. And that’s certainly true in Philadelphia this summer.

By the end of May, three popular Philly tourist attractions will be closed for renovations.

They include:

The Athenaeum of Philadelphia

The building closes May 28, and is expected to reopen in the fall. A “Goodbye for Now” open house takes place May 27.

Carpenters’ Hall

It closed April 17, 2022, and is expected to remain that way until December of this year.

In the meantime, you can see some of its artifacts at the Independence Visitor Center, 6th and Market Street, Tuesday thru Sunday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Carpenters’ Hall is expected to reopen near the end of the year.

The Second Bank of the United States

This major tourist attraction should also reopen in December 2022. It includes over 150 portraits of 18th and 19th century leaders … including more than 100 by Charles Willson Peale … that really make Philadelphia history come alive.

The Second Bank is replacing both the 60-year-old copper roof and 50-year-old wood windows, and stabilizing the 200-year-old stone exterior to keep staff and visitors safe.

State highway signs used to say: Temporary
Inconvenience, Permanent Improvement

That’s true here, too.

We can put up with some aggravation now … for long-lasting enhancements going forward.

And let’s face it: we don’t really have a choice. Let’s just hope the work proceeds smoothly and all three sites are back in operation as quickly as possible. From our lips to God’s ears.
